One thing that all pregnant women have in common is that they will gain weight throughout the pregnancy. For the most part, this weight gain starts out slowly and continues to build throughout the pregnancy. During early pregnancy, weight gain may be fairly minimal and women may not notice any changes.
While pregnant, it is important that only a healthy amount of weight is gained throughout the nine months. Typically, this is between 15 and 25 pounds, but you should consult with your doctor so that you know the correct amount of weight to gain.
In order to gain the proper amount of weight, make sure that you are eating healthy foods and only increasing your daily calorie intake by about 300 calories. While many women tend to eat double what they normally would because of their growing baby, this is not necessary.
Since the baby is small, they only require a fraction of the calories that an adult needs on a daily basis. This means that very few changes need to be made to the pregnant woman’s diet in regards to an increase in the amount of food that she is consuming. Sticking with healthy options and portion sizes is the best way to make sure both you and the baby remain healthy throughout the pregnancy.
