Some would be surprised to learn that it is possible to become pregnant after a period has occurred. Most women have a cycle that runs for 28 days. After a woman has her period, she will not ovulate for another 14 days after the last day of her period. This means that she will not be able to become pregnant for another 14 days.
However, there are many women whose cycles vary by a day or two on either side of this timeframe. This means that women with shorter cycles may find that they ovulate rather quickly again after their period ends.
Since sperm can stay in the body for several days, it is possible for a woman to become pregnant several days after her period ends. The true time that a woman is able to become pregnant depends completely on the individual cycle that her body has set up and whether sperm is present during the time that the egg is ready to be fertilized.
